Biographie

As the President of Common Good Cape Breton, Alyce Maclean works every day with people and organizations to improve Cape Breton’s social, economical, and cultural wellbeing. Alyce is a trustworthy, hard-working, and competent individual, and her passion for community development in Cape Breton is palpable.

Alyce was born and raised in Howie Centre, with strong familial ties to East Bay. She left for five years to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Psychology (St. Thomas University), as well as a Masters of Arts in English Literature and Cultural Studies (McMaster University).

Alyce moved back home in 2011 and has spent the last decade working in community development across various sectors and communities, including tourism, arts & culture, post-secondary institutions, marketing & communications, and Indigenous history & culture. To put it plainly: Alyce gets things done.

Giving back to the community is a central part of Alyce’s personality, and to that end she has volunteered for multiple Cape Breton Regional Municipality committees, spent 7 years on the boards of both the Lumière Arts Festival and New Dawn Enterprises, and currently she sits on the board of Celtic Colours. Alyce also volunteers for the Cape Breton Partnership Connector program and Meals on Wheels.
