Ben West is the Executive Director of eDemocracy Solutions and the Carbon Budget Project that empowers people to solve one of the world’s most complex and polarizing problems with a breakthrough in participatory democracy.
As a child, some of Ben’s earliest memories include taking detailed minutes with crayons for his parent’s housing co-op board meetings. As an adult, he has transferred those organizational skills into a search for the most innovative opportunities to create a sustainable ecosystem. As an environmental campaigner and communications geek, Ben has been an outspoken voice in the media and has helped shape the debate of many climates and environmental health-related issues in Canada.
Ben has worked as a Communications Coordinator and Project Lead for the Tsliel-Waututh First Nation, as Communications/ PR Manager for an innovative tech start-up, and as strategist and advisor for a wide array of clients. He also served as Campaign Director for Forest Ethics (Stand) a campaigner with the Western Canada Wilderness Committee and Executive Director of Tanker Free BC. He co-founded ‘The Great Climate Race’, an annual event providing opportunities to educate and engage runners and walkers and to raise money per kilometre for local renewable energy projects.
