Biography

Jonathan is a non-profit professional with more than 20 years of experience as a staff member, volunteer, board member, and consultant. Since 2007, he has provided coaching and professional consulting to hundreds of non-profit organizations, co-ops and individuals seeking to start or expand a social enterprise. He applies his knowledge of non-profit governance, revenue generation and diversification, building partnerships, volunteer management, and business development to social enterprise design and operation.
Jonathan presents frequently to diverse audiences on social enterprise challenges and opportunities, although he devotes the majority of his time to rolling up his sleeves to work directly with prospective and growing social enterprises to ensure that they build and expand their business effectively through sound market research and pragmatic investments of time and money.

Jonathan was the Co-founder and past Executive Director of the Centre for Social Enterprise Development (CSED) in Ottawa and was an active member of the Social Enterprise Council of Canada for five years. He is a member of The Canadian Community Economic Development Network, the Ontario Social Enterprise Roundtable, and a co-founder of the (now dormant) Ottawa Social Enterprise MeetUp group. He was a co-founder of the Impact Academy with HUB Ottawa, and a design partner and social enterprise presenter and coach for the IMPACT! Sustainability Champions Program run by The Natural Step Canada supporting youth as they develop sustainable businesses and community supported endeavours. He is currently the social enterprise expert at HUB Ottawa, the marketing expert for the Social Enterprise Institute, and he remains an affiliate service provider to CSED clients.
