Susanne is the founder of Power of Voice International, a non-profit dedicated to building strategic communications skills of CSOs around the world. She is also a freelance journalist and writer, and consults on strategy, community-building, advocacy and new media communications. Susanne co-authored the ground- breaking Report on Canadian Impact Investing in Emerging and Frontier Markets published in November 2019. In May 2019 Susanne wrapped up a fellowship in global journalism at the Munk School of Public Policy and Global Affairs at the University of Toronto where her focus was on international development and development finance.

Prior to founding Power of Voice International, Susanne worked with TGNP Mtandao in Dar es Salaam– a powerhouse Tanzanian women’s rights organization – to increase the strategic communications skills of all level of executives. She previously led Action Against Hunger Canada and Amref Canada.

Susanne has deep experience in strategic communications planning and implementation. She founded and led an award-winning North American communications agency based in Toronto. Typical client work included building communities of activists for treatment access in emerging fields of medicine, and developing partnerships and collaborations with sports industry thought-leaders on behalf of a high performance sports apparel brand. One client in particular, the Aga Khan  oundation of Canada, re-ignited her passion for global development. With the sale of the agency concluded, Susanne moved into the non-profit sector providing leadership in general management including organization effectiveness and governance, while also contributing to strengthening in-house marketing/communications and development programmes.

Susanne has significant experience working with all levels of government and in particular Global Affairs Canada where she began her career as a Foreign Service Officer. Postings to the Canadian embassies in Paris, France and Abidjan, Ivory Coast honed her skills in negotiation, writing and communications, sector research and insights and created a life-long respect for international organizations.

Educated in Canada and Switzerland, Susanne earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Glendon College including a one-year exchange at Laval University in Quebec. She is fluent in English and French.
