Heather has over two decades of experience supporting the growth and development of socially focused organizations, both in Canada and internationally. She began her career in the development finance space supporting efforts to grow businesses in the Global South. For the past 12 years, Heather has been working to support revenue strategies for nonprofit organizations in Canada.
In additional to her strong understanding of the Canadian nonprofit sector, Heather brings with her a solid financial acumen, honed most recently through her role as Director, Community Accounts at Alterna Savings, where she had oversight for the credit union’s $400million portfolio of business within the nonprofit and cooperative sector as well as oversight of its community microfinance program. Heather has reviewed countless business plans and has been involved with several social enterprise finance programs including the Catapult Loan Fund (CSI), SEUnCapped (CSED), and MixedCap (Toronto Enterprise Fund).
Heather holds an MBA in marketing and strategic management from the Schulich School of Business at York University, a BA in Liberal Arts (with an Economics major) from Kalamazoo College, a Certificate in Fundraising Management from the Chang School at Ryerson University and a Certificate in Non-Profit and Charity Finance Leadership from CPA Ontario.
